Since its inception in 1986, the Canadian Photographic Portfolio Society has commissioned portfolios of new photographic works by some of Canada's leading contemporary artists. The portfolios represent a range of approaches to photography--narrative, conceptual, formal--and reflect the innovation and rigor characteristic of Canada's contemporary art scene. The portfolios are representative of an artists' oeuvre and, at times, extend their practice into a new direction. Each portfolio is conceived as a cohesive artwork.
The Canadian Photographic Portfolio Society is a non-profit society operated by a group of volunteer artists, collectors, and curators with expertise in the field of photography. The society is primarily focussed on the support and production of contemporary photography and assists artists in the production of new work. As editions are sold, the funds go directly back into the production of new commissions.
